A sacred site of a religion is a place that they believe to be holy. The sacred sites of Shintoism mostly consist of shrines. The most famous one is Meiji's shrine in Tokyo. It is dedicated to the Japanese Emperor Meiji. Thousands of tourists and Shintos alike flock to the shrine. Another famous place is the Floating Torii Gate at Miyajima, Japan. This Torii Gate has survived the two atomic bomb blasts, a tsunami, and an earthquake. A Torii gate is the entrance to a Shrine. There are 4 main typs of shrines: Taisha, Shinmei, Hachiam, and Nagore. Every village has a guardian Kami and a shrine dedicated to the guardian Kami. Shinto people believe that every mountain in Japan is a Kamis home. Every year, some Shintos make a pilgrimage to a mountain to honor the Kami of that mountain.
This is the Floating Torii gate. The boat is there for scale.
